Kathryn Serkes

For almost 20 years, Kathryn Serkes has been on the frontlines fighting for freedom in medicine.

For 17 years, she represented the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, directing policy and communications.  At AAPS, she developed and produced the “THRIVE, Not Just Survive” independent practice workshops to help doctors develop patient-centered practices, which continue today.    She established the “Take Back Medicine” project, and in 2009, organized “Physicians, Stand Together” – the first national doctors’ rally at the U.S. capitol.

An Emmy-award winning producer and reporter before moving into public policy and advocacy work, her academic credentials include the faculty of Bellevue Community College and Guest Lecturer at George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management.

Her writing has appeared in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Hill and The Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, and she’s been a guest on shows such as “Larry King Live,” “The Today Show” and “The O’Reilly Factor.”

She is co-author of “Patient Power: The Patient’s Handbook” and has spoken on “Patient Power” or conducted workshops for more than 40 grassroots and professional groups.

She is founder and chair of the “Coalition Against Prosecutorial Abuse” to rein in government trial lawyers – the criminal companion to civil tort reform; “Hands Off Our Kids Coalition” to halt government pediatric vaccine mandates and other government violation of parental rights, and sits on the Board of GOProud.

She lives in Seattle Washington, as well as the OTHER Washington – Washington DC but promises she is definitely NOT one of the despised “Washington Insiders” who has lost touch with reality.

According to Kathryn Serkes, cofounder of the Doctor Patient Medical Association, a recent nationwide poll sponsored by her organization found 83 percent of U.S. physicians have considered leaving their practices due to President Obama’s law.

“This not just something that started today, and it’s not something that just started with passage” of Obama’s law, said Serkes. “There have been developments in medicine that have made it very, very difficult and have put some seriously different pressures on doctors. But this bill has certainly brought things to a head.”
