Bundled Pricing - Another Example of ACA Bureaucratic Bungling

Bundled pricing, according to MedPAC- "Is another FFS Strategy apart from ACO's to manage spending while increasing value." This cost cutting move in the PPACA playbook is now being picked up by hospitals across the US.

Dr. Richard Reece MD has written 2350 blogs, 1500 tweets, and 11 books on freedom in medicine. You can read his blogs at medinnovationblog.blogspot.com. His wit, adding levity to difficult and pressing issues impacting health care policy today, makes him a favored writer and speaker for physician groups.

Here is what renowned physician-read author Dr. Richard Reece has to say about, "Bundled Pricing."

Bundled Pricing - Another Example of ACA Bureaucratic Bungling

As every physician knows by now, the Affordable Care Act holds these truths to be self-evident - avaricious physicians using excessive repetitive fee-for-service services are responsible for high health costs. Therefore, the only ways to rein in these costs, are: 1) to end fee-for-service; 2) ban physician self-referral; 3) herd physicians in accountable care organizations with budget caps; 4) punish physicians and hospitals if they exceed those caps. So much for top-down blame-game fantasies and bureaucratic euphemisms for high costs engendered by open-ended federal entitlement programs. In the real world, these strategies are known as rationing.

MedPAC- as their website states, is an independent Congressional agency established by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (P.L. 105-33) to advise the U.S. Congress on issues affecting the Medicare program.

DPMA in the News!

August 1st, 2012

Physicians reacted with shock and anger to the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the President Obama’s health care law, according to poll data and the leaders of activist groups, which are continuing to fight the law in court and via political action.

According to Kathryn Serkes, cofounder of the Doctor Patient Medical Association, a recent nationwide poll sponsored by her organization found 83 percent of U.S. physicians have considered leaving their practices due to President Obama’s law.

“This not just something that started today, and it’s not something that just started with passage” of Obama’s law, said Serkes. “There have been developments in medicine that have made it very, very difficult and have put some seriously different pressures on doctors. But this bill has certainly brought things to a head.”
